United States Soo
Bahk Do Moo Duk Kwan Federation
While stationed in Korea during the 1950's
and 60's, U.S. military personnel trained in Soo Bahk Do (then Tang
Soo Do) Moo Duk Kwan, and upon returning to the United States many
continue with there training and some began teaching. These martial
artists who brought the art here are credited with the beginning
stages of growth for the Moo Duk Kwan in America. With time these
practitioners saw the difficulty in furthering the development of
the art and recognized that they didn’t have the guidance
and standardized instruction that they once had in Korea.
Upon visiting the United States for the second
time in 1974, Kwan Jang Nim Hwang Kee saw the necessity to form
a national organization and invited all Moo Duk Kwan dan members
to attend a meeting on November 29, 1974. A dedicated group of practitioner
met together and decided to establish this new organization. With
much hard work and thought the United States Tang Soo Do Moo Duk
Kwan Federation had its charter meeting, held at the Hilton Hotel
in New York, on June 28, 1976. **Officially
changed to United States Soo Bahk Do Moo Duk Kwan Federation in
1995 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Moo Duk Kwan.
The United States Soo Bahk Do Moo Duk Kwan
Federation is the only American organization that is recognized
by Kwan Jang Nim Hwang Kee. By having this link and legitimacy to
teach and spread the Moo Duk Kwan style, we are at the "heart"
of this living art.
The Federation is a Non-Profit Organization that is set up to
ensure the growth and expansion of Soo Bahk Do Moo Duk Kwan, as
well as serve it’s members. Without its members there would
be no Federation.
